About the role
Join our team at Central Steel & Wire, part of the Ryerson Family of Companies, a leading provider of industrial metal products and services since 1909. As an Area Lead, you will oversee the warehouse team and assist the second shift Supervisor with production and department goals in a dynamic, quality-focused environment.
Schedule
Second shift: Monday through Friday, 3:00 PM to 11:30 PM.
Responsibilities
- Operate motorized material handling equipment such as an overhead crane, side loader, and forklift.
- Fill in for team members when short-handed or during periods of high demand.
- Train staff to ensure they are fully prepared for their tasks; coach, mentor, counsel, and develop team members.
- Lead pre-shift safety and production huddles with the team.
- Ensure corrective actions are carried out to eliminate workplace hazards.
- Respond to machinery breakdowns by directing repairs, arranging for outside repairs, or reassigning personnel as needed.
- Assume short-term responsibility for management absences as requested.
- Perform all other duties as assigned; responsibilities may change at any time with or without notice.
Requirements
- Successfully pass a skills-based assessment evaluating reading, math, inspections & measurement, attention to detail, and problem-solving skills.
- 3-5 years of experience.
- Experience operating equipment and ability to recognize materials in the service center.
- Leadership abilities, a desire to advance, and solid interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a rapidly changing environment.
- Flexible, dependable, and solutions-oriented.
- Willingness and ability to learn and become proficient in SAP; prior experience is not required.
- Physical ability to pass a vision, hearing, and mobility exam.
Pay
$29.09 - $30.40 per hour. A starting rate higher than $29.09 per hour is based on experience and education that significantly exceed the minimum requirements.
