Area IV - Service Technician II – Bus Service Center Operations
Job Responsibilities
- Ensure fleet readiness
- Perform skilled maintenance and repair work to keep fleet vehicles service-ready, minimize downtime, and ensure accurate maintenance documentation.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and computer-controlled vehicle systems using approved tools, procedures, and diagnostic equipment.
- Respond to road calls and service requests to perform on-site repairs, assess vehicle condition, or coordinate towing and follow-up repairs.
- Repair and maintain engines, transmissions, brake systems, HVAC systems, and related components in compliance with safety and regulatory standards.
- Install and maintain required safety and operational equipment such as warning lights, radios, decals, and accessories to ensure vehicles meet operational standards.
- Complete accurate repair records, maintain parts and service truck inventory, and keep work areas clean, organized, and compliant with safety, environmental, and PPE requirements.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Each position is located at one of the ten (10) AREA IV bus maintenance shops and does NOT float between shops.
- Current vacancies for Area IV Shops include: Chester, Lower Richland, Richland, and Spartanburg counties.
- This position is located in the Office of Transportation.
Minimum And Additional Requirements
- Work experience involving the independent performance of job duties directly related to the area of employment.
- Valid driver’s license at time of hire.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with Passenger, Air Brake, and Tanker endorsements within 120 days of employment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to pass required background checks, drug screenings, and USDOT medical examination.
- Two (2) or more years of experience in automotive, diesel, or related mechanical repair.
- Experience working with fleet, school bus, or commercial vehicle maintenance.
- Familiarity with computerized diagnostics systems and electronic vehicle components.
Additional Comments
Working Conditions: Work is performed in shop, field, and outdoor environments with exposure to noise, weather conditions, oil, grease, fumes, and operational hazards. The position requires lifting, bending, kneeling, climbing, and prolonged standing. Adherence to all safety, environmental, and PPE requirements is mandatory.
