About the role

The Area Coordinator staff member is an integral team member in organizing and implementing living and learning programs within the university's residential communities. The position carries out the University of New Haven's mission and philosophy, fostering a positive atmosphere that respects, includes, and collaborates with all.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee a residential community and supervise, train, and evaluate student Resident Assistants (RAs)
  • Be a live-in presence for 350-450 residents within your assigned residential community, working day, weekend, evening hours and university holidays
  • Serve as a live-in resident advisor, providing support and referrals to students
  • Design, implement, and assess a residential programming strategy that supports retention and enhances the student experience
  • Coordinate operational aspects of residence hall openings and closings, including health and safety inspections and fire drills
  • Oversee the maintenance work order process and damage billing process, collaborating with Facilities to address area needs and issues
  • Engage in opportunities to enhance cultural competency and equity, diversity, and inclusion
  • Conduct disciplinary counseling and hearings for violations of University rules and regulations

Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree (required); master’s degree preferred
  • Two years of professional residential experience preferred
  • Proficiency with The Housing Director (THD) housing management software and Maxient conduct management software preferred
  • A valid Driver’s License
