About the role

This position is part of the National Archives and Records Administration, Military Reference Core. The Core teams provide "World Class" customer service and are tasked with utilizing his/her technical expertise related to military records for the benefit of veterans and their families, the military services and Federal, state and local agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Respond to a variety of types of requests for information regarding military service.
  • Conduct the initial review of incoming requests, which may include inquiries that involve fire destroyed or damaged records, Congressional inquiries, and/or highly sensitive requests regarding high-ranking governmental officials.
  • Analyze requests for information to identify the scope of inquiry.
  • Investigate conflicting record information, apparent errors, and/or omissions of record data.
  • Participate as a team member in a variety of functions as determined by team decisions.

Requirements

All Candidates who are:

  • Current NARA employees who hold or have previously held a permanent appointment in the competitive service;
  • Current NARA employees serving on a special appointing authority, such as Veterans Recruitment Appointment (VRA) or a Disability appointment;
  • Current NARA CTAP eligibles.
  • Qualifications

    You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.

    • Specialized Experience for the GS-05: You must have at least one year of experience at the GS-04 level or equivalent that equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. Specialized experience for this position includes:
    • Communicating to customer inquires, verbally or in writing; AND
    • Using computer systems to locate items and/or using documentation to identify information relevant to a work assignment.
    • OR EDUCATION: You may substitute education for specialized experience as follows: 4 years above high school.
    • OR COMBINATION: You may qualify by a combination of experience and education.

    Special Conditions

    Must successfully complete a background investigation.

    • Complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.
    • If you are a male applicant born after December 31, 1959, certify that you have registered with the Selective Service System or are exempt from having to do so.
    • Must be U.S. Citizens or U.S. Nationals.
