About the role

The Technical Manager is responsible for implementing architectural/engineering projects, including Design, Construction Documents, Permitting, Bidding, and Construction Administration. This role involves coordination with and communication among various disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the main point of contact for projects with clients, contractors, and consultants, requiring minimal input from the Project Manager or Principal.
  • Ensure coordination with all disciplines involved in the project.
  • Oversee the design and production of construction documents and specifications.
  • Maintain company and/or client standards.
  • Provide ongoing quality control throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Obtain and perform peer reviews of project documents.
  • Work with the Project Manager to set up project budgets and complete the designated scope of work within the allotted time.
  • Delegate, review, and accept responsibility for the work of subordinate team members.
  • Coordinate permitting processes, including issuing, tracking, expediting, and responding to jurisdictional comments, variances, etc.
  • Communicate owner revisions and RFIs (Request for Information).
  • Represent the client’s interests at public hearings and meetings as needed.
  • Provide customer service to maintain client relationships.
  • Coordinate the bidding process, including contractor qualification, bid document preparation, bid evaluation, and contract negotiation assistance.
  • Provide full Construction Administration services, such as construction site visits, field report preparation, change order processing, shop drawing review, payment form review, lien waiver collection, warranty information gathering, and project close-out.
  • Train and mentor junior staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Thorough understanding of building construction methods, techniques, and applicable codes.
  • Final responsibility for the technical quality of a project.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations, multitask, and work under time constraints.
  • May require long hours and overtime (40+ hours per week).

Work Environment

  • Work in a normal office environment, with occasional requirements to work outside of the office.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations, multitask, and meet production schedules and budgets.
