About the role

The Architectural Campus Planner will play a key role in guiding long-term development, strategic initiatives, and space planning across one of the most dynamic and innovative campuses in the country.

Responsibilities

  • Translate the university’s strategic plan into the required campus facilities to meet the plan’s goals and objectives.
  • Provide design solutions for a broad range of architectural, interior, and engineering planning issues essential to meet the university’s physical development needs.
  • Analyze, document, and develop planning projects, policies and procedures, and informal project designs to address the university’s physical campus needs.
  • Develop facilities planning and design strategies for building architecture and interior spaces.
  • Develop space programs and space analysis.
  • Lead architectural and space studies, including coordination with building (MEP) and lab systems analysis.
  • Identify and develop project alternative design options.
  • Recommend planning and design solutions guided by the Physical Master Plan.
  • Assist in providing recommendations on implementing the Physical Master Plan focused on architecture, interior, and land use design.
  • Support for the Physical Master Plan.
  • Work requires considerable contact with campus leadership, as well as with architects, engineers, and other related industry professionals.
  • Represent the university as an expert.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Education and Experience: Bachelor’s Degree in the Engineering discipline related to the area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Some positions may require licensure by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
  • Other Required Qualifications: Strong working knowledge of architecture and/or engineering principles. In-depth knowledge of university planning efforts, including master planning, architectural and interior design, space programming. space planning and project development. Proven experience in developing planning and design strategies for varied building types. Influence design solutions from programmatic requirements. Familiarity with building codes and standards in government or university environments. Proficient knowledge of standard design and construction practices. Manage multiple projects and prioritize projects. Use goals to guide actions and create detailed action plans. Experience with capital project budgeting and cost estimation. Experience with university design and planning projects, either as a consultant or directly from university/institutional experience.
  • Preferred Qualifications: Licensed architect or Certified Interior Designer with a minimum of five years of professional experience. Experience with architectural design of complex projects, strategic planning for the physical campus, and/or space planning & programming.
  • Required License(s) or Certification(s): Valid driver’s license required. Valid NC driver’s license required within 60 days of hire.
