About the role

The Architect, Technology I position is responsible for conceiving, designing, engineering, and implementing software solutions that solve significant scientific or business problems. This role requires a strong understanding of available technology, tools, and existing designs, and the ability to operate with a high degree of autonomy and productivity.

Responsibilities

  • Conceive, design, engineer, and implement software solutions by assessing information needs, conferring with users, analyzing systems flow and data usage, and investigating problem areas; resolve key project hurdles by applying available information and technical expertise.
  • Provide comprehensive consultation to business unit and IT management and staff at the highest technical level across all phases of application programming and processes for diverse development platforms and computing environments.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the pharmaceutical business and apply that understanding to deliver agile, impactful, and cost-effective solutions in support of scientific and R&D computing environments.
  • Research and evaluate alternative solutions, recommending the most efficient and cost-effective application programming approach; develop new or modified programs, reuse existing code, and integrate purchased solutions where appropriate.
  • Lead and mentor a technical cloud team supporting scientific and R&D computing environments; supervise team members as needed and remain accountable for team effectiveness and performance.
  • Lead the team in executing CI/CD-based solutions and ensuring successful delivery of cloud and platform initiatives, including automation development, implementation, and ongoing support.
  • Oversee day-to-day AWS cloud operations across development and production environments, including infrastructure oversight and general maintenance activities.
  • Monitor cloud utilization, cost, and performance, and provide clear reporting to senior leadership with recommendations to improve efficiency and support strategic objectives.
  • Partner with technical team members, Enterprise Cloud, and other cross-functional groups to resolve AWS-related issues, coordinate HPC-related priorities, build vendor and peer relationships, and ensure compliance with corporate standards, including code of conduct, safety, GxP, data security, and the software development lifecycle.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field with 7 years' experience; Master's Degree with 6 years' experience; PhD with 2 years' experience
  • Strong experience designing, developing, and implementing software or cloud-based solutions
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze business needs, evaluate technical options, and deliver efficient, cost-effective solutions
  • Experience supporting AWS cloud operations across development and production environments
  • Strong understanding of AWS cloud services
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, automation, and platform delivery practices
  • Strong understanding of orchestration and automation tools or platforms such as Jenkins, Git, Ansible, and others
  • Knowledge of containerization tools such as Docker and Kubernetes, along with scripting knowledge in Bash, Python, YAML, and related languages
  • Experience with Linux and Windows operating systems
  • Experience supporting scientific, R&D, Data Science, Life Sciences, or Pharmaceutical computing environments, preferably in regulated or enterprise IT settings, with the ability to balance technical depth, leadership, and stakeholder management

$109,500 - $208,500 USD
