About the role

This position is with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), within U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Office of Facilities and Asset Management (OFAM), Mission Support Facilities (MSF) Division. MSF Division provides facilities and associated infrastructure, facilities management, and sustainment to support CBP mission support office operations.

Responsibilities

• Create building designs and highly detailed drawings both by hand and using specialist computer-aided design applications.
• Liaise with construction professionals about the feasibility of potential projects.
• Review Business Partner requests for facility/building construction, alteration, and restoration.
• Create designs to meet client specifications, create and propose budget and time estimations, and act as an intermediary between the client and the architect team.
• Oversee the preparation of conceptual drawings and diagrammatic sketches which translate facility requirements into plans, elevations, sections and details showing the design, location, and dimensions of the various elements of the structure and quantity and kinds of material to be used.

Qualifications

• Experience: You qualify for the GS-13 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as providing architectural services for design, layout, and construction of large structures, furnishing advice and decisions in the preparation of studies, plans and design criteria needed for planning preliminary and final design, construction and renovation of specific types of buildings, evaluating and analyzing data, developing concepts, recommending solutions to problems related to highly visible and design issues, planning and monitoring projects to ensure compliance with practices, standards, and specifications, identifying project requirements.

Basic Requirements

• Education: Degree in architecture; or related field that included 60 semester hours of course work in architecture or related disciplines of which at least (1) 30 semester hours were in architectural design, and (2) 6 semester hours were in each of the following: structural technology, properties of materials and methods of construction, and environmental control systems.
• Combination of Education and Experience: College-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the arts and sciences underlying professional architecture, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the architectural principles, methods, and techniques and their applications to the design and construction or improvement of buildings.

Pay

The starting salary for this position is $106,437.00 (GS-13, Step 1) to $138,370.00 (GS-13, Step 10).
