Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s (foreign equivalent or higher) degree of Architecture or a degree in a related field.
- Five (5) years of full-time directly related experience in Architectural Design and Construction Documents.
- Three (3) years of direct supervisory experience.
- Experience with computer aided systems, preferably AutoCAD 2022 or greater.
- Working knowledge of New York State building code and ADA design guideline requirements to ensure proper designs.
- Valid NYS Driver’s License; free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violations.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree (foreign equivalent or higher).
- New York State Registered Architect.
- New York State Certified Code Enforcement Official.
- Directly related design experience with an architectural design firm or Federal, State, or Local Municipality Facilities Design department.
- Proficiency with Building Information Modeling and construction management software (Kahua, E-builder).
- Experience in supervising the physical implementation of providing design services.
- Experience designing Research Labs and research equipment.
Brief Description Of Duties
- Provide design services for physical alteration work that is funded by the Capital Plan and local projects to be administered by the HSC design and construction department.
- Participate in the planning process, working with internal and external architect and engineering firms, reviewing finished drawings to verify that the campus program specifications have been met, and selected inspection of construction work to see that completed work meets design drawings and specifications.

- Act as the primary point of contact between the University and the State University Construction Fund (SUCF) and other State agencies.
- Manage multiple design projects concurrently, both Capital and local projects for in-house design and design with outside consultant architects and engineers.
- Review work submitted by consultants for completeness, clarity, constructability, correctness, and consideration of all applicable New York State codes.
- Develop and maintain Campus Standards.
- Provide design and management assistance with Stony Brook Facilities and Support Services and/or Utilities in the form of critical Maintenance projects.
- Assess the issues, investigate, develop estimates, design the solution and oversee the construction of said issues.
- Design solutions that prioritize campus resiliency, energy efficiency, and long-term durability.
- Ensure all maintenance designs address Fire/Life Safety deficiencies and ADA accessibility gaps.
- Develop cost estimates and oversee construction to ensure repairs are completed with minimal impact on University and Hospital operations.
- Attend assigned project meetings.
- Develop drawings for the design documents.
- Develop bid specifications for outside contractors for project designs, which include defining and specifying all materials and products required to complete projects and producing specifications for purchasing.
- Affiliate with the Stony Brook University community to foster a collaborative environment.
- Assist in developing request for proposals (RFPs) and request for qualifications (RFQs).
- Maintain a regular Project Status Report with project status, scheduling, and financials.
- Maintain communications with construction staff.
- Act as a liaison between COM, Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S), and University Police to ensure holistic project safety.
- Proactively identify bottlenecks in the design-bid-build process and recommend policy updates.
Special Notes
- This is a full-time appointment.
- FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.
- Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
- In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $4,000 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
