Archaeology Technician-Florida & surrounding
About the role
Join Stantec's Cultural Resources team in and around our Riverview and Tallahassee, FL offices to play an integral role in conducting archaeological survey, testing, data recovery, and monitoring. Stantec is seeking on-call archaeological technicians to join our team.
Responsibilities
- Perform archaeological fieldwork tasks including controlled surface survey; shovel testing; and excavation.
- Participate in 5- or 10-day rotations consisting with 8–10-hour work days.
- May include other tasks as determined by project needs.
Requirements
- Experience on Phase I survey projects preferred.
- Experience in Phase II testing or Phase III data recovery projects preferred.
- Previous experience with mapping equipment and other special application equipment (e.g., ESRI’s ArcGIS Field Maps, ArcGIS Survey123, etc.).
- Knowledge of land navigation using a compass.
- Valid driver’s license with good driving record and is comfortable driving an F-150 or equivalent to and from projects and unpaved roads.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Detail oriented; resourceful; self-motivated; strong initiative.
- Positive and energetic attitude.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in anthropology/archaeology or related field, or combination of education and experience.
- Successful completion of an archeology field school.
- Professional experience conducting archaeological survey and excavation preferred.
- Knowledge of precontact and historic material culture.
- Able to complete physically demanding tasks in remote areas and/or humid continental climate, including walking, hiking, carrying heavy loads, and digging.
- Frequent out-of-town travel, potentially for extended periods of time.
