Responsibilities
- Conduct intensive pedestrian surveys across rugged West Texas terrain
- Complete approximately 10 shovel tests per day, depending on field conditions
- Identify and record archaeological sites, isolated finds and cultural resources
- Accurately complete field forms, shovel-test records and site documentation
- Assist with site mapping, photography and artifact identification
- Follow established safety, archaeological and quality-control procedures
- Work effectively under the direction of crew chiefs and project leadership
- Hike substantial distances and work outdoors in changing weather conditions
Qualifications
- Previous archaeological fieldwork or accredited archaeological field school
- Bachelor’s degree in archaeology, anthropology or a related discipline preferred
- Experience with pedestrian survey, shovel testing and site recording
- West Texas, New Mexico or broader Southwest archaeological experience strongly preferred
- Ability to perform physically demanding work in remote terrain
- Ability to work extended days and overtime
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation
- Valid driver’s license preferred
