About the role

The Salvation Army’s Adult Rehabilitation Centers make a difference in people’s lives by collecting and reselling gently used goods to fund programs that assist men and women facing social and spiritual challenges. The in-residence rehabilitation program provides clean living environments, nutritious food, work therapy, counseling, and spiritual guidance, all aimed at developing life skills and fostering a personal relationship with God. Each team member contributes to a mission that “recycles” goods while helping to repair broken lives. The Store Manager plays a key role in creating a positive work environment, building strong customer relationships, and driving sales to support these vital programs.

Responsibilities

  • Create and sustain a pleasant, hospitable work environment and maintain excellent customer relationships to motivate staff and meet sales goals.
  • Ensure full compliance with The Salvation Army’s Guide to Thrift Store & Donation Centers Operations manual and all policies and procedures, including the issuance of verbal and written warnings when necessary.
  • Meet sales, production, and expense budget targets to maintain a profitable operation.
  • Ensure all donated merchandise is promptly moved from the back room to the sales floor and displayed effectively.
  • Receive and review applications, participate in interviews when needed, and recommend qualified candidates to the Administrator, Store Supervisor, or designate.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations for store personnel, identifying strengths and areas for development, and recommend training as necessary.
  • Hold monthly staff and safety meetings; ensure all safety measures align with The Salvation Army’s policies and government regulations, and that all personnel comply.
  • Schedule all sales associates and unpaid staff to ensure full store coverage at all times; post weekly work schedules including assignments, breaks, and vacation time.
  • Submit accurate and complete biweekly payroll information for all personnel, including attendance, absenteeism, and overtime records.
  • Order merchandise to maintain adequate stock levels and ensure all items are “ragged out” and colorized according to the Territorial ARC Rag Out Calendar.
  • Provide training, direction, and supervision for new employees and retraining for all personnel as needed.
  • Oversee the proper accounting and secure banking of daily cash receipts; safeguard cash in accordance with the “Safekeeping of Salvation Army Funds” policy.
  • Complete and forward all paperwork and sales reports to the finance department daily.
  • Report any site visits or communications from OSHA, CPSC, or local fire/building/city/town inspectors to the Administrator; verify inspector credentials and forward contact details.
  • Attend manager meetings and communicate new policies and directives to store personnel.
  • Protect property and buildings; report safety hazards, property damage, and personal injuries to the Administrator, Store Supervisor, or designate.
  • Provide oversight and guidance to beneficiaries participating in the work therapy program, modeling professional conduct, work habits, and supervision as directed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor or Administrator.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Preferred: Experience in sales.
  • Ability to lead, manage, and motivate others.
  • Ability to read and interpret basic income and expense reports.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable DMV record.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Flexibility and willingness to work at any store location under the supervision of this Adult Rehabilitation Center.
