Responsibilities
- Aid in creating a pleasant and hospitable work environment and maintain good customer relationships.
- Assist with store operations as required.
- Serve all customers in a courteous and efficient manner.
- Handle all donations with care and donors with respect and courtesy.
- Handle merchandise as directed, always maintaining proper categories and colorization.
- Maintain the store sufficiently stocked and “ragged out” according to the “ARC COMMAND RAG OUT CALENDAR.”
- Assist in cleaning and general maintenance of store property.
- Immediately report theft, customer complaints, injuries, and any unsafe equipment or conditions to management.
- Maintain a clean and clutter-free work area.
- Be well-versed in and comply with the Guide to Thrift Store & Donation Center Operations manual.
- Support the work therapy program component of The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Centers by providing professional conduct, work habits, and supervision (as directed by Supervisor).
- Perform cashier/sales floor duties including cash handling, sorting, pricing, stocking, and restocking merchandise.
- Run clothing racks as needed.
- Hang and ticket clothing on rolling racks from the sorting table by department on the correct hanger type and by category in an 8-hour period.
- Price a minimum of 250 garments an hour using a wide range of prices determined by the style, quality, and condition of each piece.
- Sort, clean, and ticket miscellaneous merchandise donations daily.
- Process to the store a minimum of 25 pieces/sets per hour maintaining all merchandise in the required order and manner.
- Sort, clean, and ticket shoes, handbags, and accessories donations daily.
- Measure and ticket linen items daily as required.
- Sort, clean, and ticket books, records, and toys donations daily.
- Sort, clean, and test electrical and furniture donations as required.
- Complete furniture tickets and record required information assigning a fair market price for each furniture item.
- Mark down furniture items on the sales floor in accordance with policy.
- Perform lawn and garden work as needed.
Qualifications
- Ability to speak and understand English for effective communication with supervisors, employees, beneficiaries, and customers.
- Excellent customer service skills.
- Ability to understand and follow directions.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
