About the role

The City of Modesto is seeking an enthusiastic Aquatics Program Leader to join our team. This role involves delivering high-quality swim instruction, supporting pool operations, and engaging with participants through various programs and events.

Responsibilities

  • Teach or assist with swim lessons following the approved curriculum.
  • Maintain class rosters and communicate progress to parents.
  • Set up and maintain safe teaching areas.
  • Monitor ride entry and exit points for safety compliance.
  • Enforce rules related to ride safety, height, and rider spacing.
  • Cook up to 25 pounds; occasional lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Experience teaching swim lessons, working with children, or working with recreational programs or event planning.
  • First Aid Certificate, CPR Certificate, Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Certificate.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of practices and techniques for favorable public relations, group cooperation, and programming for participants.
  • Principles and practices of recordkeeping and scheduling.
  • Recreational, social, and cultural needs of the community.
  • Light custodial maintenance techniques.

Skills

  • Read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.
  • Think clearly, quickly, and accurately in emergencies.
  • Develop favorable public relations and maintain an appearance that projects a positive image.
  • Coordinate and schedule a variety of activities.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted during work.
  • Prepare reports and records as required.
  • Work various shifts including days, evenings, weekends, and holidays as assigned.
  • Lift and carry heavy objects.
  • Run forward, backward, and laterally.
  • Perform light custodial maintenance tasks.
  • Travel from worksite to worksite as needed.

Benefits

  • Salary offered depends on candidate’s experience.
  • Sick Leave: Employees receive sick leave credit at the rate of twenty-four (24) hours or three (3) days per calendar year.
  • PUBLIC AGENCY RETIREMENT SERVICES ALTERNATE RETIREMENT SYSTEM PLAN (PARS ARS): Total contribution of 7.5% - employee pays 3.75% of wages (pre-tax) and the City pays 3.75%.

Pay

Salary offered depends on candidate’s experience.

Schedule

This position is non-benefited and is designated as a non-classified, at-will position. This role is limited to working approximately 29 hours per week up to 1,000 hours annually or working approximately 40 hours per week up to 6 months and no more than 1,000 hours annually.
