About the role
The Office of Commissioner Rodney Ellis oversees four precincts in Harris County, serving as the administrative head of the county's government. Precinct One, represented by Commissioner Rodney Ellis, covers approximately 363 square miles and includes diverse communities with a mix of racial and ethnic populations.
Responsibilities
- Surveillance and Prevention: Constantly scan the pool area, identify potential hazards or unsafe behaviors, enforce safety rules, and provide emergency care when needed.
- Swimming Lessons: Plan and conduct swimming lessons for individuals and groups following approved curriculum and safety guidelines.
- Customer Service: Provide clear instructions, demonstrations, and feedback to help participants improve their swimming skills, monitor class participants to ensure safety and proper technique, and interact effectively with a diverse range of people.
- Maintenance and Cleaning: Maintain a clean and safe environment in and around the pool, including daily cleaning, checking and maintaining equipment, and reporting any maintenance issues to the appropriate department.
- Training and Certification: Maintain current certifications in CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguarding, participate in ongoing training and development opportunities, and complete incident reports and complaints.
- Administrative Tasks: Participate in staff meetings or training and perform other job duties as required.
Requirements
- Education: Currently attending High School or possessing a High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: Three (3) years of related experience / previous experience working with youth in a swimming or recreational setting.
- Certification: Possess and maintain current American Red Cross First Aid and CPR Training, and American Red Cross Lifeguard Certification.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Swimming Expertise, Safety Awareness, Interpersonal Skills, Physical Fitness, Adaptability, Organizational Skills.
