Aquatics Instructor (Part Time)

The Position

The City of Carlsbad is seeking an Aquatics Instructor to join their team. Located in north San Diego County, Carlsbad offers a vibrant community with beautiful beaches, lagoons, and a variety of recreational opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct American Red Cross swimming lessons ranging from Parent/Child Aquatics to Learn to Swim Level Six
• Promote participation, provide information on available programs and enforce required safety rules and regulations
• Rescue persons in distress and render first aid
• Assist in conducting special events and maintaining aquatic facilities

Qualifications

• Possess current certificates in:
• Current certificate in American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI)
• Three months of experience as a swim instructor is preferred

• Knowledge of:
• Principles and techniques of teaching swim lessons to all ages
• Lifeguarding techniques, first aid, and other aquatic instruction

• Interact and be patient and professional with the public
• Ability to follow class guidelines and exercises, enforce required safety rules and regulations
• Serve as an ambassador to the Parks & Recreation Department, as well as the City of Carlsbad

Experience & Education

• Physical/Mental Requirements:
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, squat, stoop and reach
• Lift 25 lbs
• Exposure to outdoors; ability to travel to different sites and locations
