About the role

The FOSS Assistant Manager (AM) plays a key role in the school leadership team, organizing and executing tasks throughout the office, retail, and reception areas while providing mentorship to the team. They manage administrative functions such as scheduling, tracking revenue targets, developing direct reports, and ensuring high-quality Swim Path curriculum and facility standards. The Assistant Manager learning path is an in-depth program designed to provide exposure to school management through targeted training, hands-on learning, and rotations in roles like Swim Teacher, Customer Support, and Supervisor. This role prepares incumbents for future leadership by building competencies in business acumen, time management, organizational execution, and talent development.

Responsibilities

  • Coach and counsel non-exempt personnel on job performance, including compliance with FOSS policies and corrective action when necessary.
  • Implement FOSS policies and build a culture that aligns with the company’s purpose and values.
  • Support recruiting efforts and collaborate with school leaders on personnel training to ensure staff meet all requirements.
  • Oversee class enrollments, customer engagement initiatives, and operating practices to meet business objectives.
  • Support the General Manager in achieving financial goals, including lesson and retail revenue, expense management, and KPIs.
  • Serve as a FOSS Brand Ambassador, building customer relationships to foster loyalty and excitement for the brand.
  • Ensure facility cleanliness standards are met.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of experience in a supervisor role or one year of employment at FOSS (preferred but not required).
  • Must obtain American Red Cross CPR/First Aid certification within the first 90 days of employment (FOSS covers costs for initial and renewal certifications).
  • Experience in retail, health and fitness, restaurant, or related fields is preferred.
  • Self-motivated with a desire to achieve results individually and as a team.
  • Availability to work days, evenings, and weekends.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, deadlines, and confidential information with integrity and sound judgment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to participate in organizational, employee, or community engagement events.
  • Ability to collaborate, identify issues, and lead through influence.
  • Ability to travel to school locations across Minneapolis, MN; Chicago, IL; Madison, WI; St. Louis, MO; Ankeny, IA; and Fargo, ND during the training program.

Working Conditions

  • Work in an indoor pool facility that is warm and humid, with water temperatures up to 91 degrees.
  • Exposure to noise, chemicals, and industrial equipment.
  • Ability to speak clearly and professionally, including with children.
  • Physical requirements include moving up/down stairs, ramps, or ladders; reaching overhead and below the knees; bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, pull, or place objects weighing up to 15 pounds unassisted (heavier tasks may require assistance).
  • Ability to review documents or computer screens with small print.
  • Operate computers, handheld devices (e.g., iPads), phones, and common office tools.
  • Mentally focus on tasks and apply sound reasoning and judgment.

Pay

Starting at $50,000. Compensation depends on qualifications, skills, competencies, and experience.
