Class Summary

The Aquatic Program Leader oversees the daily operations of the assigned aquatic center(s), including planning and coordinating aquatic programs and activities. This position maintains records such as registrations, attendance, financial reports, and facility usage. The role also supports staff training and supervision, assists with public training programs, and contributes to the assessment and implementation of aquatic programs and services.

Essential Duties

  • Instructing clients on the fundamentals of the assigned Parks and Recreation programs
  • Engaging in daily public interactions with patrons and external entities to create lasting relationships and positive customer experiences, including assisting citizens with questions and concerns regarding Aquatic Programming
  • Aiding in marketing assigned programs by speaking at events, distributing flyers, and writing newsletters
  • Processing registration forms and completing refund requests
  • Maintaining records and other documentation regarding daily program activities and operations such as class registrations, attendance records, deposits and financial reports, and facility usage
  • Maintaining ongoing internal communications through various forms, such as email, phone, and other technologies, including meeting participation and follow-up involvement
  • Aiding in instructor and staff scheduling across sites and differing programs in a manner that maintains safety and quality of service
  • Working towards positive and engaging staff experiences to maintain staff retention and morale, to drive quality of service and maintain staffing numbers with high levels of experience
  • Performing other duties of a similar nature or level

Public Speaking

  • Assisting with staff trainings, volunteers, and Community Partners by engaging in presentations and verbal and written communications, as well as guiding groups or individuals
  • Participating in staff meetings, Community Partner meetings, etc.
  • Interacting with customers and collaborating with other departments to support daily operations

Grade & Salary

The grade for this position is B221. The salary will be dependent on education and experience. Effective 4/11/2023, this position is eligible for the Employee Referral Program.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate degree in parks and recreation, health and human services, or senior services AND
  • One (1) year or more experience working in a recreation setting as a Pool Operator/Aquatic Facility Operator.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above will also be considered.
  • Valid Driver’s License

Certifications Required Within 6 Months to 1 Year of Hire

  • CPR Certification (within 6 months)
  • First Aid Certification (within 6 months)
  • Lifeguard Training Certification (within 1 year)
  • Water Safety Instructor Certification (within 1 year)
  • Pool Operator/Aquatic Facility Operator Certification (within 1 year)
