About the role

The Aquatics Director leads, grows, and shapes the Sonoma County Family Y's Aquatics Department. This Team Leader position is instrumental in the overall direction, coordination, operation, and success of the department.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the department meets or exceeds financial goals.
  • Provides remarkable leadership in areas of member & staff experience, as well as retention and growth of programs and membership.
  • Creates an atmosphere that ensures member satisfaction and promotes member safety and engagement in accordance with Y mission, core values, policies, and procedures.
  • Recruits, hires, trains, develops, schedules, and directs personnel/volunteers as needed.
  • Reviews and evaluates staff performance.
  • Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
  • Cultivates a member-focused team.
  • Determines required core competencies, skills & trainings as needed.
  • Supports members in their health & wellness journey through relationship building.
  • Works with the Membership Director to ensure a positive member experience.
  • Oversees all aspects/operations of community programs/partnerships.
  • Maintains accurate records as required by the Y and/or the state Health Department code.
  • Works with the Bldgs./Grounds Director to ensure cleanliness, maintenance, upkeep and safety of pool area.
  • Reads, analyzes, and interprets policies.
  • Responds to and resolves common inquiries or concerns.
  • Participates in all fundraising efforts.
  • Serves as Manager on Duty, attends weekly meetings, and participates & supports various Y/community events.
  • Identifies, develops, and nurtures collaborative relationships with community organizations.

Requirements

  • Minimum 21 years of age.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent combination of education & experience.
  • 2 or more years’ experience in managing aquatic operations, or related programs and services.
  • Must possess all required lifeguard/instructor certifications (Title 22/American Red Cross/YMCA) or obtain within 90 days of employment.
  • Must have current First Aid/CPR w/AED or obtain within 30 days of employment.
  • Excellent communication, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to respond to safety and emergency situations effectively.
  • High level of proficiency in MS Office applications: Excel, Word, Publisher & Outlook.
  • Must live within a commutable distance to the YMCA facility.
  • Fingerprint clearance with the Department of Justice (DOJ) and FBI, to include sex offender screening.
