Aqua Fitness Instructor - Seasonal

Objective

The objective of this position is to lead instruction of Aqua Zumba classes on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at Rockport Pool during the summer season under the supervision of the Head Lifeguard/Aquatics Supervisor and the Recreation Programmer.

Relationships

Reports to: Head Lifeguard/Aquatics Supervisor; Recreation Programmer
Works with seasonal employees on a regular basis and communicates with other division employees, professional staff, customers, and the general public.

Essential Duties

  • Creates and plans class instruction plans and provides related equipment including corresponding music.
  • Provides instruction through demonstrating proper and safe technique and form for aqua fitness exercises and movement.
  • Maintains a presence with proper apparel and equipment.
  • Scans and surveys the pool for potential issues or safety concerns.
  • Makes class modifications or individual participant modifications as needed.
  • Provides necessary first aid and/or CPR and reacts appropriately in emergency situations.
  • Follows all safety regulations, policies, and procedures; reports all unsafe conditions and acts to supervisor; reports all accidents to the supervisor immediately whenever possible; follows recognized safe work practices.

Other Duties

  • Keeps proper records of attendance for each class.
  • Informs Supervisors of issues that arise.
  • Provides polite customer service to all class participants.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Position Requirements/Qualifications

  • Must be 16 years of age or older.
  • Previous experience in teaching aerobic and/or aqua fitness classes preferred.
  • Zumba certification desired.
  • A combination of equivalent experience and/or education as determined by the Human Resources Office may be considered in lieu of minimum requirements.

  • Knowledge of water aerobics and Zumba activities.
  • Teaching aqua fitness fundamentals and Aqua Zumba exercises.
  • Motivating and engaging class participants of various fitness levels.

  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbally and in writing, paired with a strong customer service background, and effective interpersonal skills.

Working Conditions and Physical Factors

  • Occasional exposure to dirt, dust, and moisture.
  • Semi-reaching to full-reach overhead, crouching, kneeling, bending, twisting, turning, and lying on stomach and/or back.
  • Must be able to sit or stand and move for long periods of time.
  • See and observe all sections of an assigned area of responsibility, with or without reasonable accommodation.
