About the role

The City of Cedar Park is seeking Seasonal Swim Instructors to support its aquatics swim lessons program. This position offers valuable leadership experience while serving the community and ensuring patron safety.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures a safe environment for students in the swim lesson program.
  • Plans, organizes, and leads program activities.
  • Develops daily lesson plans.
  • Sets up equipment for scheduled activities.
  • Observes and enforces policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Instructs various levels of classes, infants to thirteen years old.
  • Instructs swim lessons according to city standards.
  • Maintains skill accomplishment records for each class and student.
  • Discusses students' progress with parents.
  • Maintains all swim lesson equipment.
  • Cleans program areas after activities and at the end of the workday.
  • Attends scheduled in-service trainings.
  • Demonstrates cooperative behavior with team, supervisor, and the public.
  • Willingness to substitute for others and perform related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be at least 16 years of age by May 1, 2026.
  • Knowledgeable and able to swim: Breaststroke, Butterfly, Freestyle (front crawl), Backstroke, Sidestroke, and Elementary Backstroke.
  • During summer months, must be able to work mornings/mid-day (8:30 am - 1:00 pm) and afternoons/early evenings (3:30 pm - 7:00 pm) Monday through Thursday with occasional Fridays.

Skills

  • Knowledge of current swimming techniques.
  • Ability to perform current swimming techniques and teach these skills to children.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships and rapport with employees, supervisor, and the general public.
  • Learn equipment and supply use and care.
  • Provide guidance and instruction.
  • Communicate activity objectives, programs, and information and directions.
  • Conduct activities following established rules, guidelines, retain and use safety rules and department guidelines.
  • Evaluate program activities verbally and in writing.
  • Plan, organize, motivate, lead, and promote recreational activities for different age groups with diverse interests and varying skill levels.
  • Conduct games and activities following established rules and guidelines.
  • Handle requests, inquiries, and complaints in a cooperative and constructive manner.
  • Work outdoors and under a variety of weather conditions.
  • Work irregular hours.

$14.25 - $15.25 hourly

Schedule

Summer months: Mornings/Mid-day (8:30 am - 1:00 pm) and Afternoons/Early evenings (3:30 pm - 7:00 pm) Monday through Thursday with occasional Fridays.
