Summary
Aids physicians in patient care and education.
- Assesses patients' physical and psychosocial status through interviews, health histories, physical examinations, and diagnostic studies.
- Writes prescriptions for medication and blood products based on laboratory results, routine diagnostic and follow-up studies, therapeutic measures, and care post-discharge in accordance with written practice protocols.
- Determines patients' eligibility for entry into clinical trials.
- Interprets and evaluates findings of studies/tests.
- Relays appropriate information regarding patient care to the collaborating physician.
- Administers therapeutic measures / obtains specimens as prescribed.
- Drafts follow-up letters to referring physicians with summaries of treatment, response, and plan.
- Drafts or writes patient history, admissions, progress notes, and discharge notes in a timely manner.
- Assists in managing family dynamics and coping mechanisms during acute and chronic phases of patients’ care.
- Conducts or participates in daily multi-disciplinary rounds for assigned patients to ensure they are receiving appropriate and quality care.
- Triage patients to determine the urgency of physician evaluation.
- Documents and reports care in an accurate, timely manner using appropriate forms and records.
- Demonstrates a willingness to learn and remain flexible in the changing healthcare environment.
- Assists staff in times of crisis or emergency.
- Meets with the public outside the institution and efficiently markets and promotes cancer treatment.
- Determines work priorities, assigns work, and ensures proper completion of work assignments.
- Complies with all federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to patient privacy, patient's rights, personnel law, safety, labor, and employment law.
- Adheres to FCS and departmental policies and procedures, including IT policies and procedures and Disaster Recovery Plan.
- Other duties as requested.
- Keeps work area and records neat and orderly.
- Maintains all company equipment in a safe and working manner.
- Maintains and ensures the confidentiality of all patient and employee information as required by the HIPAA regulations.
- Assists in training new employees to related job duties.
- Will be expected to work at any FCS location to help meet FCS business needs as directed by collaborating physicians.
- Will be expected to work overtime when given sufficient notice of required overtime.
Education/Certifications & Licenses
- Graduate from an accredited Nurse Practitioner program, master’s degree in nursing or post-masters nurse practitioner certificate program
- Current license/registration to practice in the state of Florida, prescriptive privileges or eligible to apply
- Certification from American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), or the Oncology Nurses Certification Corporation (ONCC)
- BLS certified
