Job Description Summary
Functions as an advanced practitioner within the respective nursing specialty. Provides consultation on nursing practice and assigned patient outcomes. Collaborates with physicians, orders and interprets diagnostic tests, reviews admission data, determines level of care, procures services, educates patients and families, participates in interdisciplinary treatment planning conferences, facilitates patient care, responds to complex situations, initiates referrals, coordinates patient care, manages the environment of care, identifies areas needing improvement, promotes surveillance, prevention, and control of infection, attends departmental meetings, and participates in performance improvement programs.
Functions
- Provides consultation on nursing practice and assigned patient outcomes.
- Collaborates with physicians, orders and interprets diagnostic tests.
- Reviews admission data within designated time frames; determines suitability of level of care.
- Procures services and serves as advocate on behalf of patients, families, and the hospital for scarce resources.
- Facilitates and provides necessary patient and family education on admission as indicated.
- Participates in interdisciplinary treatment planning conferences.
- Provides guidance to team during patient care conferences.
- Demonstrates advanced knowledge of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures and nursing care.
- Interviews patients and completes a full comprehensive medical history and physical examination within 24 hours of admission.
- Documents all information relative to patient's history, physical examination, assessment, and treatment plan.
- Initiates referrals and collaborates with medical staff and other health care professionals.
- Coordinates management of patient care.
- Responds to complex situations in a calm, competent, and professional manner.
- Initiates and/or assists in Medical Emergency activities on the unit.
- Affords support to the Unit Director in assessing, evaluating, and documenting competency of all nursing staff members.
- Provides input to the Unit Director regarding clinical performance of staff.
- Manages the environment of care by assessing patients for fall risks and other risk factors; ensuring unit safety, reporting deficiencies to the Nurse Director, coordinating the function of the therapeutic milieu.
- Identifies areas needing improvement and actively participates in the department's performance improvement program.
- Promotes surveillance, prevention, and control of infection by using and teaching hygienic practices.
- Attends and actively participates in departmental meetings and in-service programs, providing positive suggestions and input.
Qualifications
- State of Florida Advanced Practice Registered Nurse License; ACLS Certification; CPR certification required.
- Advanced Practice Registered Nurse, Master of Science in Nursing degree.
- At least 1 year experience as an APRN preferred.
