Program Design
The apprenticeship program combines on-the-job training and academic instruction. Steel Dynamics has partnered with Virginia Western Community College (VWCC) to create a 2-year degree in mechatronics. The timeframe to complete the classroom portion of the training is two years. Work schedule will vary with class schedule and will consist of both classroom time and OJT days in the mill. The apprentice will work alongside a designated “mentor” while in the mill on their OJT days.
Program Requirements
- Demonstrated mechanical or electrical aptitude
- Safety-minded, possessing a strong work ethic, positive attitude, eagerness to learn, self-motivated, and hardworking
- Complete a battery of assessments
- Provide letters of recommendation from current Steel Dynamics' supervision
- If selected, participate in the interview process
- Able to commute to both Steel Dynamics and VWCC
Program Benefits
