About the role

The Apprentice Optician delivers the LensCrafters Experience by ensuring customers are delighted through our selling model and service standards. You’ll assist customers in selecting frames and lenses suited to their vision, lifestyle, and budget while upholding optical excellence and operational accuracy.

Responsibilities

• Perform key steps of the LensCrafters Sales and Service Process: greeting, explaining processes, merchandise selection, fitting (AccuFit), solving visual challenges, tendering, and dispensing.
• Assist customers in choosing frames and lenses tailored to their needs, offering solutions and recommendations.
• Support retail associates with complex customer product needs and prescriptions.
• Anticipate and resolve customer problems proactively, focusing on long-term solutions.
• Educate customers on LensCrafters’ guarantees, services (e.g., Eyewear Protection Plan), care tips, adjustments, and follow-up services.
• Take and record precise measurements, adjust or fit eyewear accurately, and ensure finished products meet optical standards and customer requests.
• Strive for “Exceptional Results” on annual CEI/Functional Skills aligned with brand priorities.
• Operate the Point of Sale (POS) terminal accurately, handling transactions and payments securely.
• Explain “One Hour” processing and delivery times, and guide customers to eyewear pickup.
• Maintain store appearance, visual displays, and a safe working environment; report safety concerns.
• Demonstrate safe work practices, including wearing personal protection equipment in the lab.
• Serve as a role model and technical resource for development within the store.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Part of a sanctioned Apprentice Program.
• Strong customer service skills: communication, listening, and teamwork.
• Knowledge of optical theory, current merchandise, and fashion trends.
• Basic math skills and familiarity with POS systems, computers, and calculators.
• Willingness to embrace new technology and change.

Preferred Qualifications

• Actively studying for LensCrafters Quality, Fitting, and Adjusting Program.
• Prior optical dispensing or customer service/retail experience.

Employee pay is determined by factors such as geography, experience, qualifications, skills, and local minimum wage requirements. A competitive bonus and/or commission plan may complement base pay.
