About the role
Machinists Apprentices operate a variety of machine tools to exacting tolerances and dimensions. This includes using tools and measuring devices that monitor and verify the quality of parts. Apprentices learn to work under strict safety and quality requirements, help achieve daily production goals in terms of quality and quantity, optimize efficiency, and maintain operational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Train in manufacturing machining functions using manual and CNC lathes, mills, and basic hand tools.
- Set up and operate machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, hobs, and precision grinders to produce aerospace parts to specifications.
- Use machinist’s hand tools and precision measuring instruments.
- Perform standard shop computations related to dimensions and tooling.
- Read and interpret blueprints.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED.
- U.S. Citizenship status required.
- Mathematical and mechanical skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong time management abilities.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints.
- Knowledge of technical functions and basic computer skills.
- Ability to work well within a team and independently.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 50 pounds (from 4 inches to 25 inches).
- Capable of pushing or pulling a weight of 60 pounds.
- Grip strength of at least 50 pounds.
- Able to reach above the shoulder (65 inches).
