About the role
Penn United Technologies, Inc. is looking for a full-time Apprentice - Machine Operator to work in our Preform department at our Carbide facility. We are looking for individuals who desire to do precision work, learn a skill which is in high demand, and to grow professionally in a career within our employee-owned company.
Responsibilities
- Prioritize, plan and prepare work.
- Analyze tasks and establish appropriate sequence of operations.
- Read prints & job orders for product specifications to determine dimensions and tolerances and machine set-up requirements.
- Select, align, and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, and materials on machines.
- Set-up and safely operate various machining equipment such as manual and CNC lathes, mills, jig bores, and grinders in order to machine or grind components to customer specifications.
- Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors or enter commands to retrieve, input or edit computerized machine control media.
- Verify conformance of finished work piece to specifications using precision measuring devices (such as micrometers, calipers, gauges, etc..)
- Attend on-site apprenticeship classes in addition to on-the-job learning while performing responsibilities on the shop floor.
Qualifications
- Knowledge and Skills:
- Must have math & mechanical skills/aptitude.
- Able to work well independently and cooperatively with team.
- Candidates must be available to work primarily daylight, but also have availability for afternoon and/or midnight shifts as needed, stand 8-10 hours per day, and lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
