Apprentice – Locks & Doors

About the role

The employee may occasionally be required to supervise a varying number of employees in the overall direction, coordination, and completion of tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

• Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily
• High School Diploma or general education degree (GED)
• Must clear all necessary criminal and vehicular background checks
• Must possess and maintain a current Oklahoma license for motor vehicles
• Must maintain a clean driving record
• Must maintain confidential information of a sensitive nature

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate woodworking machines including power saws, jointers, radial arm saws, drill presses, and band saws
• Assist in the installation of glass in windows, doors, and partitions
• Assist in the replacement and installation of insulating materials in building framework and roofs
• Assist in the replacement of damaged ceiling tiles, floor tiles, and wall coverings
• Work in confined spaces above, below, and at ground level; become knowledgeable in the Mid-Del Schools Confined Spaces Program
• Work in aerial bucket ladder or catwalk at a height not to exceed 110 feet
• Communicate effectively with Principals, Teachers, Food Service Personnel, Custodians, and Students
• Perform as part of an overall maintenance team working for the timely completion of all assigned tasks, including work in different departments
• Manage time effectively
• Develop a working knowledge of vendors, purchase orders, work orders, and call-in work requests
• Operate various software programs including word processors, spreadsheets, and Access Control Systems via phone communications with software and graphic configurations
• Work in close relationship with the Director of Maintenance and Construction, Supervisor of Maintenance and Construction, and the Carpentry Foreman in budgeting, maintenance, repair, and installation of various equipment
• Assist with coordinated planning, designing, and installation of new construction and/or remodel projects
• Become knowledgeable in the Mid-Del Schools Lockout/Tagout Program
• Maintain all doors, closures, and locking devices found throughout the District
• Maintain a key control system (KC2000) using computer aids for all sites throughout the District
• Interpret blueprints and representative drawings of buildings and/or equipment
• Issue key codes for all new and remodel construction projects throughout the District
• Keep all sites informed of changes in key code policies and ensure understanding of new key coding systems
• Install permanent high security keys/cores
• Aid sites in designating a specific person as their Key Controller and train them in proper key control techniques
• Maintain the integrity of the overall keying system and its intent as instructed by the Director of Maintenance and Construction, Supervisor of Maintenance and Construction, and Carpentry Foreman
• Provide pertinent information on the status of the District keying system when requested
• Install, repair, rebuild, and service mechanical or electrical locking devices
• Disassemble locks including padlocks, safe locks, and door locks; repair or replace worn tumblers, springs, and other parts as necessary
• Insert new or repaired tumblers into locks to change combinations
• Cut new or duplicate keys required throughout the District and maintain records on all new keys cut
• Occasionally move lock pick in cylinder to open lock door locks without keys
• Open safe locks by drilling
• Become knowledgeable of all purchases made from vendor accounts assigned to the Locks & Doors section
• Secure price quotes on projects being considered
• Assemble quotes in a format that can be understood by administrators

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to or more than 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to or more than 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to fume or airborne particles. The employee frequently works in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts, extreme cold (including outdoors), extreme heat (including direct sunlight), risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment will vary from somewhat loud to extremely loud.
