Apprentice Funeral Director/Embalmer

About the role

The Funeral Director Apprentice works under the supervision and direction of licensed funeral directors to learn and assist with all aspects of funeral service operations.

Responsibilities

• Assist with the transportation and care of decedents
• Prepare and set up for visitations and funeral services
• Assist with embalming and other preparation procedures as permitted by law
• Support funeral directors in making arrangements with families
• Assist with funeral and memorial services
• Handle transportation and documentation
• Coordinate with vendors
• Prepare facilities for services
• Participate in an on-call rotation, including evenings, weekends, and holidays
• Work collaboratively with funeral directors, coworkers, families, vendors, and other service providers
• Assist with community outreach and preplanning education
• Maintain facility and vehicle upkeep
• Perform other duties necessary to support the funeral home’s daily operations and the families it serves

The position requires professionalism, compassion, attention to detail, confidentiality, and compliance with all applicable federal and state laws, OSHA regulations, and company policies and procedures.

Requirements

• Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Mortuary Science
• Good written and verbal communication skills
• Valid state-issued driver’s license in good standing and acceptable driving record
• Ability to lift 75 lbs or more
• Flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as needed
• Professional appearance and attitude
