About the role
The Apprentice Technician position at Wagner Equipment Co. is a challenging role that involves diagnosing, repairing, reconditioning, and maintaining heavy equipment and components. This position requires a strong foundation in automotive or diesel mechanics, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Responsibilities
- Prepares accurate and complete service reports and turns them in on time
- Prepares inspection and appraisal reports
- Correctly charges work to appropriate work order segments
- Safely removes, disassembles, assembles, and installs components and parts
- Determines reusability of parts in accordance with published Caterpillar guidelines
- Orders replacement parts, ensuring that parts orders are correct and complete at the time of order
- Serves and maintains equipment sold and/or owned by the company
- Tests, measures, and adjusts engine and machine systems and components
- Diagnoses and troubleshoots machine and engine malfunctions and failures
- Analyzes customer repair and maintenance requirements
- Keeps up to date with developments in tooling, technologies, and systems
- Maintains a clean and organized work area
- Makes recommendations as to repairs meeting warranty criteria
- Makes parts replacement decisions assuring optimum economic reusability
- Communicates effectively with Apprentice Coordinator, Service Writers, Shop Coordinators, and Shop Managers to ensure problems, nature, and status of repairs are understood and followed up on
- Communicates effectively with College Instructors, Apprentice Coordinator, and Managers to ensure successful completion of the required college coursework
- Works in a cooperative manner with other team members to accomplish the goals of the shop, classroom, and company
- Cleans, repairs, reconditions, and maintains equipment and components

Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
- Can show an interest in working on cars, trucks, motorcycles, etc.
- Experience as an entry-level technician
- Experience in customer service
- Technical or mechanical experience

- Strongly Preferred: Automotive or diesel course in High School

Pay
$22.00 per hour
Schedule
Part-time during the day with Wagner and then continues with night classes through CNM starting January 11, 2027.
