Apprentice 1st Year - Journeyman Lineman (Texas)

This posting is for a potential future opening(s) to build a candidate pool, should the opening(s) become available. The position is designated as a Safety Sensitive role and is subject to mandatory pre-employment and random drug testing.

Responsibilities

• Construct, build, and maintain overhead (OH) and underground (UG) electric facilities with primary voltages up to 34.5KV, including installation, removal, and maintenance of OH/UG primary line facilities and secondary services.
• Install OH/UG transformers and wire all types of transformer banks.
• Install and wire regulators, capacitors, and reclosers.
• Operate various trucks and equipment, including Aerial Bucket and Digger Derrick Trucks.
• Read and interpret job prints and sketches, and recognize materials and their functions.
• Set and climb poles of all sizes in open areas, rear alleys, and near energized lines.
• Perform on-call duty and emergency response.
• Assume a lead role and direct the work of other linemen when required.
• Work safely and follow all Entergy safety policies and procedures.
• Maintain and care for company equipment and safeguard assets.
• Interact with the public in a pleasant and tactful manner, delivering high-level customer service.
• Identify opportunities for process improvement.
• Perform basic computer tasks, such as entering time worked, noting task completion, checking emails, and completing computer-based training.

Requirements

• Apprentice 1st Year: 1 year of demonstrated linework experience.
• Apprentice 2nd Year: 2+ years of demonstrated linework experience.
• Apprentice 3rd Year: 3+ years of demonstrated linework experience.
• Apprentice 4th Year: 4+ years of demonstrated linework experience.
• Journeyman: 5 years of lineman experience.
• Must possess or be able to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
• Ability to use physical strength to perform tasks in all weather conditions.
• Ability to work irregular hours and out-of-town assignments as required.
• Good communication skills and ability to follow directives with limited supervision.
• Ability to plan and lay out work safely and efficiently.
• Ability to learn through classroom instruction, on-the-job training (OJT), and repetitive motions.
• Ability to climb and work off poles of various heights.
• Ability to recognize and mitigate workplace hazards.
• Demonstrated acceptance of a diverse and inclusive work environment and customer base.

Essential Functions

• Traverse uneven terrain (wet, muddy, slippery, concrete, or asphalt) with a full complement of tools weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Work in extreme weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
• Work in confined spaces and alone during restoration services.
• Perform physical tasks, including digging, pulling, pushing, carrying, and lifting up to 80 pounds.
• Maintain a valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License.
• Safely operate trucks and heavy equipment around energized lines and equipment.
• Work at heights for extended periods, including overhead work from a bucket truck on energized lines.
• Climb up and descend from wooden/steel structures, poles, and ladders; balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, grip, handle, and feel.
• Perform emergency rescue operations, including bringing an unconscious or injured co-worker down from significant heights.
• Exercise sound judgment to work safely in an inherently dangerous environment.
• Understand and follow safety rules.
• Work up to 16 continuous hours per day.
• Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Communicate effectively and interact with a team.
• Manage stress and handle tense situations.
• Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
• Work overtime when necessary.

Travel up to 25% may be required. Authorization to work in the United States is required; Entergy will not sponsor candidates for work visas for this position.
