Responsibilities
- Construct, build, and maintain overhead/underground (OH/UG) electric facilities with primary voltages up to 34.5KV, including:
- Installation, removal, and maintenance of OH/UG primary line facilities and secondary services
- Installation of OH/UG transformers and wiring of all types of transformer banks
- Installation and wiring of regulators, capacitors, and reclosers
- Operate various equipment, including aerial bucket and digger derrick trucks
- Drive different sizes and types of trucks
- Read and understand job prints and sketches
- Recognize materials and their function
- Set and climb all sizes of poles in open areas, rear alleys, and energized lines
- Be available for on-call duty and emergency response
- Assume a lead role and direct the work of other linemen
- Recognize opportunities for process improvement
- Perform basic computer tasks (e.g., entering time worked, checking emails, completing computer-based training)
- Communicate effectively and interact with a team
Requirements
- Minimum qualifications based on experience level:
- Apprentice 1st Year: 1 year demonstrated linework experience
- Apprentice 2nd Year: 2+ years demonstrated linework experience
- Apprentice 3rd Year: 3+ years demonstrated linework experience
- Apprentice 4th Year: 4+ years demonstrated linework experience
- Journeyman: 5 years of lineman experience
- Required to have or obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License
- Ability to:
- Use physical strength to perform tasks in all weather conditions
- Work irregular hours and out-of-town assignments
- Take and understand directives with limited supervision
- Plan and lay out work safely and efficiently
- Climb and work off poles of various heights
- Recognize and mitigate workplace hazards
- Maintain and care for company equipment
- Meet the public in a pleasant and tactful manner
- Work safely and follow all Entergy safety policies and procedures
- Learn through classroom instruction, on-the-job training, and repetitive motions
- Demonstrated acceptance of a diverse and inclusive work environment and customer base
Essential Functions
- Traverse uneven terrain (e.g., wet, muddy, slippery, concrete, or asphalt) with tools weighing up to 50 pounds
- Work in extreme weather conditions (heat and cold) and confined spaces
- Perform physical tasks, including digging, pulling, pushing, carrying, and lifting up to 80 pounds
- Work alone during restoration services
- Safely operate trucks and heavy equipment around energized lines
- Work at heights for extended periods, including from bucket trucks (overhead work above shoulders on energized lines)
- Climb and descend wooden/steel structures, poles, and ladders; balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, grip, handle, and feel
- Perform emergency rescue operations, including bringing an unconscious or injured coworker down from significant heights
- Exercise sound judgment in a dangerous environment and follow safety rules
- Work up to 16 continuous hours per day
- Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Maintain regular and reliable attendance
- Work overtime when necessary
- Manage stress and handle tense situations
This position is designated as safety-sensitive and is subject to mandatory pre-employment and random drug testing. Authorization to work in the United States is required; Entergy will not sponsor work visas for this position.
