Los Angeles County applicants: Job duties include working safely and cooperatively, adhering to standards under stressful conditions, communicating effectively, and following all federal, state, and local laws and company policies. Criminal history may impact eligibility for this role.

About the role

The Prime Video Science team leverages machine learning, AI, and causal inference to inform major entertainment decisions—what content to create, license, or invest in. We build large-scale models simulating global customer behavior, shaping business strategy. As an Applied Scientist, you’ll develop next-generation models to guide Prime Video’s content and product investments.

Responsibilities

  • Build models simulating customer behavior to answer counterfactual "what-if" questions, guiding content and product investment decisions.
  • Apply deep learning, reinforcement learning, causal inference, and experimental design to large-scale customer data to model responses to change.
  • Design and prototype agentic AI systems and novel ML approaches; research methods to improve model accuracy and scale.
  • Validate and calibrate models against real-world randomized experiments; partner with engineers to deliver scalable, production-ready systems.
  • Translate model outputs into clear recommendations and communicate results to business, finance, and science stakeholders via technical papers and business-facing documents.

About the team

The Prime Video Science team is a multidisciplinary group of applied scientists, data scientists, economists, and engineers. We tackle high-impact research at the intersection of ML, AI, and causal inference, with visibility up to the CFO/CEO level. Our work drives customer experience and business profitability.

Requirements

  • PhD or Master’s degree in CS, CE, ML, or related field (or 4+ years of equivalent experience).
  • Experience with patents or publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals.
  • Proficiency in Java, C++, Python, or related programming languages.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing state-of-the-art deep learning models, training/optimization, and model pruning.
  • Track record of investigating, prototyping, and delivering innovative system solutions.
  • Professional software development experience.
  • Expertise in reinforcement learning, agentic AI system design, and/or causal inference.
