About the role
We are seeking an Applied Scientist to join our Seattle-based team. This role requires deep expertise in areas such as machine learning, speech recognition, natural language processing, or computer vision. The position involves applying scientific principles to assess new initiatives, develop new algorithms, and enhance existing ones to improve products and services.
Responsibilities
- Machine Learning — hands-on experience building predictive models (regression, gradient boosting, survival models, or deep learning for sequential data). Comfortable with model training, validation, feature engineering, and productionization.
- Causal Inference — understands experimental design (A/B tests, holdouts), uplift modeling, or econometric techniques (diff-in-diff, instrumental variables). Ability to distinguish correlation from causation and design defensible measurement.
- Python fluency — primary working language. Comfortable with pandas, scikit-learn, PyTorch/TensorFlow, and standard data science tooling.
- Cloud computation — experience with AWS (SageMaker, EMR, Redshift/Athena) or equivalent. Must be able to work with large-scale data pipelines, not just local notebooks.
- Apply scientific principles to assess the feasibility and timeline of new initiatives requiring significant inventions.
- Develop new algorithms or enhance existing algorithms to improve customer experience and impact.
- Maintain awareness of the state-of-the-art in the respective field of expertise.
- Focus on advancing the state-of-the-art to improve products and services.
Requirements
Technical Skills
- Deep expertise in machine learning, speech recognition, natural language processing, computer vision, or knowledge acquisition.
Preferred Qualifications
- Marketing science experience — prior work on LTV, attribution, incrementality, customer segmentation, or marketing mix modeling. Understands how models translate into marketing decisions (targeting, budget allocation, campaign optimization).
- Experience working with cross-functional partners (marketing, engineering, finance).
- Ability to independently frame valuation problems, build and validate models, and connect outputs to business decisions — not just deliver a notebook.
- Comfort with ambiguity and ability to communicate results to non-technical stakeholders.
Benefits
- Medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance plans.
- Employee Stock Purchase Program (ESPP).
- 401K program with company match after 12 months of tenure.
- Health Savings Account (HSA) on the HDHP plan.
- SupportLinc Employee Assistance Program (EAP) with up to 8 free counseling sessions.
- Corporate discount savings program and other discounts.
- On-demand training program, access to certification prep, and a library of technical and leadership courses/books/seminars after 6+ months of tenure.
- Certification discounts and perks for associations including CompTIA and IIBA.
- Dedicated customer service team for benefits and resources, plus a certified Career Coach.
