About the role

The Discovery Tech team helps customers discover and engage with new, popular, and relevant products across Amazon worldwide by combining technology, science, and innovation to build new customer-facing features and experiences alongside advanced tools for marketers.

You will create and build critical services that automatically generate, target, and optimize Amazon’s cross-category marketing and merchandising. Through intelligent marketing campaigns leveraging machine-learning models, you will help deliver the best possible shopping experience for Amazon’s global customers.

We seek analytical problem solvers who enjoy diving into data, are excited about data science and statistics, can multi-task, and can credibly interface between engineering teams and business stakeholders. Your work will identify actionable opportunities to solve business problems and anticipate future needs.

Your domain includes designing, developing, testing, and deploying data-driven, highly scalable machine learning solutions in product recommendation. As an Applied Scientist, you bring business and industry context to science and technology decisions, setting the standard for scientific excellence.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build critical services for automated marketing and merchandising optimization.
  • Develop and deploy data-driven, scalable machine learning solutions for product recommendation.
  • Leverage machine-learning models to enable intelligent marketing campaigns.
  • Identify and address business problems, including future opportunities.
  • Decompose complex problems into straightforward, efficient, and extensible solutions.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams and business stakeholders to drive impactful decisions.

Qualifications

  • PhD or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Machine Learning, or a related field.
  • 1+ years of experience (for Master’s degree holders) in CS, CE, ML, or related fields.
  • Experience programming in Java, C++, Python, or a related language.
  • Experience building machine learning models or developing algorithms for business applications.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Patents or publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals.
  • Experience with generative deep learning models (e.g., CNNs, GANs, VAEs, NF) applicable to synthetic data creation.
  • Usage of generative AI tools to enhance workflow efficiency, with a willingness to learn effective prompting and evaluation practices.
  • Ability to recognize opportunities where generative AI could enhance products, workflows, or customer experiences.

Pay

Base salary range: $142,800.00 – $193,200.00 USD annually (Seattle, WA). Final compensation will be determined based on experience, qualifications, and location.
