Join the Amazon Music - Search Science team as an experienced Applied Scientist. You will work with experts in machine learning to break new ground in understanding and classifying music, and creating interactive experiences to help users find the music they are in the mood for. This role involves tackling machine learning problems for music classification, recommender systems, dialogue systems, NLP, and music information retrieval. You'll collaborate in a research-driven environment, working with large-scale data to implement and deploy algorithmic ideas, validate them through statistically relevant experiments, and publish your research. Your work will directly enhance the experience of Amazon Music customers on Alexa/Echo, mobile, and web platforms.
Responsibilities
- Use machine learning, deep learning, LLMs, and Agentic AI techniques to create scalable solutions for business problems.
- Analyze and extract relevant information from large amounts of Amazon's data to help automate and optimize key processes.
- Design, develop, and evaluate AI models for predictive learning.
- Work closely with software engineering teams to drive model implementations and new feature creations.
- Establish scalable, efficient, automated processes for large-scale data analyses, model development, validation, and implementation.
- Research and implement novel machine learning and statistical approaches.

Our goal is to help customers discover up-and-coming artists while also accessing their favorite established musicians. We build large-scale distributed systems that span our music apps, web player, and voice-forward audio engagement on mobile and Amazon Echo devices, powered by Alexa. Amazon Music is available in countries worldwide, supporting our mission to deliver music in innovative ways that enhance daily life.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience building models for business applications.
- PhD, or Master's degree and 4+ years of experience in CS, CE, ML, or a related field.
- Experience programming in Java, C++, Python, or a related language.
- Experience building machine learning models or developing algorithms for business applications.
- Experience in any of the following areas: algorithms and data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel and distributed computing, high-performance computing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience using Unix/Linux.
- Experience in professional software development.
- Experience in patents or publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals.
Pay
The base salary range for this position in Sunnyvale, CA is $171,600.00 - $222,200.00 USD annually. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
