About the role

The AI Foundations team at Capital One is central to realizing our vision of applying cutting-edge AI to transform customer experiences. This role involves working closely with a diverse team of data scientists, software engineers, machine learning engineers, and product managers to develop AI-powered products that enhance customer interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with a cross-functional team to deliver AI-powered products that redefine how customers engage with their finances.
  • Leverage a wide array of technologies including PyTorch, AWS UltraClusters, Huggingface, Lightning, and Vector Databases to uncover insights from vast datasets.
  • Build AI foundation models across all stages of development, from initial design to deployment.
  • Engage in impactful applied research to advance AI capabilities and integrate them into innovative customer experiences.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts to stakeholders to align on business goals and priorities.

Requirements

  • Currently pursuing or recently obtained a PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, AI, Mathematics, or related fields, or a Master's degree with 4+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience with open-source tools and cloud computing platforms.
  • Deep understanding of AI methodologies and foundational algorithms.
  • Experience with large-scale deep learning model training and optimization.
  • Track record of delivering AI solutions at scale.
  • Knowledge of transfer learning, model adaptation, and model guidance.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Computer Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, or related fields.
  • Exceptional research publications in deep learning theory, optimization, and transfer learning.
  • Experience in training large language models (10B+ parameters, 500B+ tokens).
  • Expertise in areas such as model sparsification, quantization, training parallelism, gradient checkpointing, and model compression.
  • Strong track record of developing and deploying large-scale AI models.
  • Experience with compiler design and deep learning algorithmic design.
  • Knowledge of transfer learning, model adaptation, and model guidance.

Skills

  • Strong programming skills in Python, R, or equivalent.
  • Experience with deep learning frameworks like PyTorch, TensorFlow, or others.
  • Understanding of natural language processing (NLP) and its applications.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Pay

Salaries for this role range from $262,500 to $326,800 annually, depending on location. Performance-based incentives may also be offered.

Schedule

This role is full-time and permanent.
