About The Role
What if your expertise in quantum mechanics, electrodynamics, and thermodynamics could directly shape how AI understands the physical universe? We're looking for PhD-level Applied Physicists to probe the limits of cutting-edge Large Language Models — exposing where their reasoning breaks down and helping ensure they respect the fundamental laws that govern reality. This is a fully remote, flexible contract role built for scientists who love rigorous problem-solving. No prior AI experience needed — just deep mastery of physics and an uncompromising standard for correctness.
What You'll Do
- Design Advanced Problems — Craft PhD-level, open-ended physics problems that demand multi-step logical reasoning, complex mathematical derivation, and mastery of core physical principles
- Author Ground-Truth Solutions — Write rigorous, step-by-step "golden responses" where every physical constant, unit conversion, and logical transition is airtight
- Audit AI Reasoning — Evaluate AI-generated simulations, proofs, and explanations for physical consistency — identifying where models "hallucinate" physics that violates first principles
- Refined Model Behaviour — Provide structured, expert feedback that helps AI systems develop physics-informed reasoning, correctly applying constraints like boundary conditions and conservation laws
- Work Across Core Domains — Engage with university- and research-level benchmarks in quantum mechanics, electromagnetism, thermodynamics, classical mechanics, and statistical mechanics
Who You Are
- Holds a PhD (completed or near completion) in Applied Physics, Physics, Engineering Physics, or a closely related field
- Deep command of the core pillars: Classical Mechanics, Electrodynamics, Statistical Mechanics, and Quantum Mechanics
- Exceptional ability to explain complex physical phenomena and mathematical derivations in clear, structured prose
- Meticulous attention to detail — units, scientific notation, and logical proof structure matter to you at a fundamental level
- Self-motivated and reliable when working independently and asynchronously
- No prior AI or data annotation experience required
- Nice to Have: Experience with data annotation, scientific dataset evaluation, or quality assurance workflows, Proficiency with tools such as MATLAB, COMSOL, Python (NumPy/SciPy), or similar scientific computing environments, Background in academic research, teaching, or technical writing at the graduate level
Why Join Us
- Work directly on cutting-edge AI projects in collaboration with leading AI research labs
- Fully remote and flexible — structure your hours around your schedule, 10 to 40 hours per week
- Freelance autonomy with meaningful, intellectually stimulating work that engages your expertise at the highest level
- Gain rare, hands-on exposure to how frontier LLMs are trained and evaluated on scientific reasoning
- Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
