About the Role
What if your years of physics training could directly shape how AI understands the physical world? We're looking for PhD-level Applied Physicists to rigorously challenge cutting-edge AI models — exposing the gaps in their reasoning, catching violations of fundamental physical laws, and helping build AI that truly understands how the universe works.
What You'll Do
- Design Advanced Problems — Craft PhD-level, open-ended physics problems that demand multi-step reasoning, rigorous mathematical derivation, and mastery of first principles across quantum mechanics, electromagnetism, thermodynamics, and beyond
- Author Gold-Standard Solutions — Write precise, step-by-step "golden responses" that serve as the benchmark for correct physical reasoning — every unit, constant, and logical step verified
- Audit AI Reasoning — Evaluate AI-generated proofs, simulations, and explanations for physical consistency, identifying where models "hallucinate" physics that violates conservation laws, boundary conditions, or established theory
- Refine Model Behavior — Provide structured, expert feedback that directly improves how AI models reason about the physical world — from classical mechanics to quantum systems
Who You Are
- PhD completed or in final stages in Applied Physics, Physics, Engineering Physics, or a closely related field
- Deep mastery across the core pillars: Classical Mechanics, Electrodynamics, Statistical Mechanics, and Quantum Mechanics
- Exceptional ability to communicate complex physical reasoning and mathematical derivations in clear, structured written English
- Uncompromising attention to detail — units, notation, dimensional analysis, and logical rigor are second nature to you
- Self-directed and reliable working independently in an asynchronous environment
- No prior AI or data annotation experience required
Nice to Have
- Experience with scientific data evaluation, annotation, or quality review workflows
- Proficiency with computational tools such as Python (NumPy/SciPy), MATLAB, or COMSOL
- Background in research-level benchmarking or academic problem design
Why Join Us
- Work on high-impact AI projects in collaboration with leading AI research labs
- Fully remote and flexible — structure your hours around your existing commitments
- Freelance autonomy: choose your pace, work asynchronously, and contribute globally
- Apply your expertise to problems that matter — helping AI reason correctly about the physical world
- Exposure to how frontier large language models are trained and evaluated
- Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
