About the Role
What if your deep expertise in physics could directly shape how AI understands the fundamental laws of the universe? We're looking for PhD-level Applied Physicists to probe the limits of cutting-edge Large Language Models — designing rigorous problems, exposing reasoning failures, and helping ensure that AI respects the principles that govern physical reality.
What You'll Do
- Design Advanced Problems — Craft PhD-qualifying-level physics problems that demand multi-step logical reasoning, mathematical derivation, and deep domain understanding across areas like quantum mechanics, electromagnetism, thermodynamics, and classical mechanics
- Author Gold-Standard Solutions — Write rigorous, step-by-step "golden responses" with flawless physical constants, unit conversions, and airtight logical flow
- Audit AI Reasoning — Evaluate AI-generated proofs and simulations for physical consistency, identifying where models "hallucinate" violations of first principles such as conservation of energy or momentum
- Refine Model Behavior — Provide structured, expert feedback that helps AI develop physics-informed reasoning — correctly handling boundary conditions, symmetry constraints, and physical limits
- Shape Research Benchmarks — Contribute to university-level and research-level evaluation datasets that push the boundaries of what AI can understand about the physical world
Who You Are
- Holds a PhD (completed or near completion) in Applied Physics, Physics, Engineering Physics, or a closely related field
- Has deep mastery across the core pillars: Classical Mechanics, Electrodynamics, Statistical Mechanics, and Quantum Mechanics
- Writes with exceptional clarity — able to explain complex physical phenomena and mathematical derivations in structured, precise English
- Uncompromisingly detail-oriented when it comes to units, notation, dimensional analysis, and the logical integrity of a proof
- Self-motivated and reliable when working independently on task-based assignments
Nice to Have
- Experience with data annotation, scientific dataset evaluation, or quality assurance workflows
- Proficiency with tools such as Python (NumPy/SciPy), MATLAB, or COMSOL
- Background in computational physics, theoretical physics, or applied mathematics
- Familiarity with AI or machine learning concepts as an end user or researcher
Why Join Us
- Work directly with leading AI research labs on genuinely cutting-edge projects
- Fully remote and async — work when and where it suits you, on your own schedule
- Freelance autonomy with the intellectual depth of meaningful, high-stakes scientific work
- Gain rare, firsthand exposure to how frontier LLMs are trained and evaluated
- Contribute to work that helps AI reason correctly about the physical world — with real-world impact at scale
- Potential for ongoing work and contract extension as new projects launch
