About the role

We are looking for an Applications Bioinformatician with expertise in bioinformatics and statistics and in-depth knowledge of the range and limitations of existing bioinformatics tools. You will work with the Applications team to interpret sequencing data across various biological contexts, answer biological questions, and provide best-practice advice to customers and support teams. The role focuses on leveraging domain expertise for data analysis in biopharma industry applications.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate different analysis methods to understand their impact on data interpretation and communicate findings to internal stakeholders through meetings and webinars.
  • Develop pipelines for analyzing DNA and direct RNA sequencing applications using ONT’s nanopore sensing platform, with a focus on biopharma industry applications.
  • Collaborate with laboratory-based Applications scientists to plan and refine experiments, interpret data in biological context, and report results clearly.
  • Interact with other data analysts and bioinformaticians to adapt tools for analysis and work with developers to productionize methods.
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest developments by working closely with other applications groups globally, providing feedback, and incorporating new approaches into analyses.
  • Participate in the entire experimental cycle, from sample collection to high-quality publication or presentation, as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

Requirements

  • Track record of performing bioinformatics sequence analyses for diverse projects and involvement in the entire experimental process, from concept to execution.
  • Practical experience handling and analyzing large datasets and collaborating with lab scientists to refine experimental and analytical approaches.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with confidence in discussing and presenting data to colleagues.
  • Versatility, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in scripting languages (e.g., Python, R) and familiarity with the latest literature on NGS and analysis.

Qualifications

  • PhD (or equivalent experience) involving substantial analysis and visualization of DNA and RNA sequence data, ideally with post-doctoral or industry experience.
  • Specific expertise in analyzing data for biopharmaceutical applications or related fields (e.g., genetic engineering, microbiology, synthetic biology) is preferred.

Pay

The salary for this role is between $116,000 and $145,000 USD per annum, reflecting the skills and experience of the candidate.
