As an Application Engineer, you will support the sales process for our robotic tooling and industrial automation product lines, providing technical support before, during, and after the sales process. You will collaborate with customers and internal teams to ensure high customer satisfaction.
Responsibilities
- Develop and prepare customer quotes for specialty components.
- Review customer specifications and parts, interpreting drawings and other documents.
- Develop customer design specifications and coordinate design drawings with the SCHUNK Design Engineering team.
- Follow up on prototype product design and application issues, making required changes to meet customer requirements and quality standards.
- Prepare and deliver quotes and sales orders to customers, tracking and following up on their progress.
- Monitor design and production schedules for special applications, ensuring coordination across SCHUNK teams and facilities.
- Track sales order progress through delivery, ensuring customer satisfaction and adjusting schedules as needed.
- Provide technical service and training presentations to customers and representatives on SCHUNK components’ use, operation, and maintenance.
- Provide customer support via phone, email, and occasional on-site visits.
- Enter customer quotes and sales orders into SAP, tracking the order process through delivery.
- Perform duties of the Technical Specialist and Customer Service Representative (CSR) when necessary.
- Work across product teams on special projects, trade shows, and internal events.
- Participate in SCHUNK special projects as requested.
- Some light travel may be required.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering Technology preferred; Associate's degree in Engineering Technology or a related technical field accepted with three or more years of related support experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- Prior experience with mechanical industrial automation components or mechatronics is highly desired.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with assigned accounts.
- Ability to develop sufficient knowledge of customer business needs to accurately quote SCHUNK product solutions with an emphasis on Quality and Technical Service.
- Proficiency in PC applications, including advanced skills with Microsoft Office suite and email. Prior experience using an ERP system for processing quotes and orders is preferred.
- Ability to calculate figures such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, volume, and torque loads.
- Strong communication skills to convey technical information effectively over the phone, email, and face-to-face with customers and employees.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, small team environment with management, technical specialists, applications engineers, CSRs, and sales staff.
- Critical thinking skills to recognize and analyze problems, develop and implement solutions.
