Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Processing, or related field and two (2) years of software support and analysis experience, or an Associate’s degree in the same fields and four (4) years of software support and analysis experience.
  • Texas Class “C” Driver’s License or equivalent issued by another state by time of appointment.

Special Requirements

Applicants must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check within the first six months of hire and maintain CJIS eligibility. The following convictions and/or deferred adjudications will disqualify candidates:

  • Felony convictions or deferred adjudication
  • Class A & B misdemeanor deferred adjudication
  • Class B misdemeanor convictions
  • Open arrest for any criminal offense (felony or misdemeanor)
  • Family violence convictions

Responsibilities

  • Identify and resolve software application technical issues.
  • Perform application maintenance and upgrades using Software Development Life Cycle concepts.
  • Analyze and recommend new or revised software and procedures, including feasibility studies for system conversions.
  • Provide technical support to end users and assist in evaluating proposed information systems.
  • Develop detailed flowcharts, block diagrams, and other documentation to determine information needs.
  • Maintain and develop business unit reports using report-writing solutions.
  • Assist with systems integrations and recommend technical solutions to improve automated systems and business processes.
  • Ensure project products meet departmental standards and manage assignments using the IT Department ticketing system.
  • Actively manage customer satisfaction and provide timely updates on project progress.
  • Prepare complete and precise user instructions and system documentation.
  • Report program activity and project status to management.
  • Analyze and modify software packages to meet user needs.
  • Provide technical assistance to operations and programming personnel for debugging and problem-solving.
  • Write queries to analyze database data.
  • Collaborate with IT support programs to debug and resolve technical issues.
  • Estimate resource requirements, level-of-effort, and timelines for major tasks and projects.
  • Prepare application configuration and systems design alternatives according to established standards.
  • Train functional end users on system capabilities and guide them in resolving related issues.
  • Supervise assigned staff, including assigning work, appraising performance, and enforcing personnel rules.
  • Interview applicants and recommend hiring, termination, transfers, or disciplinary actions.
  • Substitute for immediate supervisor or coworkers during temporary absences.

    • Additional holidays may be designated by City Council; observed on the preceding Friday if a holiday falls on a Saturday or the following Monday if it falls on a Sunday.
