Application Software Engineer, Phantom Works (Experienced or Senior)

About the Role

The Boeing Company is seeking an Application Software Engineer (Experience or Senior) to join the Phantom Works Open Architecture Systems Integrated Software (OASIS) Solutions team in Berkeley, MO. This role supports the Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Software Engineering organization within Phantom Works, a team dedicated to transforming bold ideas into trusted, operational solutions for aerospace, autonomy, and advanced technologies.

The selected team member will collaborate with others, prioritize customer satisfaction, and thrive in a multi-contract/multi-program environment. This position focuses on developing solutions to complex problems through ingenuity and innovation, with adaptability to new technologies and development environments.

Responsibilities

• Designs, develops, tests, and maintains embedded software throughout the end-to-end lifecycle, ensuring compliance with industry, customer, safety, and regulation standards.
• Reviews, analyzes, and translates customer requirements into initial software product designs.
• Develops interface definitions.
• Performs unit and integration testing.
• Participates in peer reviews.
• Supports software system integration and test.
• Creates software documentation.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology (including manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, computer science, or a related field.
• Active Secret clearance with the ability to obtain Top Secret & Special Program Access.
• 3+ years of experience in C++ and C#.
• 3+ years of experience with Linux development.
• 3+ years of experience with git or a similar version control system.
• 3+ years of experience in software architecture development and open architectures.
• 3+ years of experience with network architectures and software applications that communicate through TCP/UDP-based networks.

Preferred Qualifications

• 5+ years of related work experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• For Experienced Level: Bachelor’s degree and 5+ years of related work experience, or 9+ years of directly related work experience, or 13+ years of related, relevant experience.
• For Senior Level: Bachelor’s degree and 9+ years of related work experience, or 13+ years of directly related work experience, or 17+ years of related, relevant experience.
• Knowledge of host environments, including processors, operating systems, and networks.
• Ability to build, integrate, and troubleshoot software components.
• Knowledge of software architecture and design methodologies.
• Ability to synthesize software architectures and designs that meet requirements, characteristics, and constraints.
• Knowledge of software development processes compliant with internal and industry standards, guidelines, and best practices.
• Familiarity with software development and testing tools (e.g., compilers, debuggers, requirements management tools, GUI builders).
• Knowledge of domains, characteristics, and constraints influencing software architecture, requirements, and integration/test approaches (e.g., data processing, ground support, aerospace systems).
• Knowledge of implementation, validation, and verification processes to ensure software quality, performance, and safety.

Pay

Summary pay range for Experienced level: $126,650 - $171,350.

Summary pay range for Senior level: $160,650 - $217,350.

Potential signing bonus for eligible/qualified external candidates.

This position is for 1st shift.

Occasional travel may be required (less than 10%).

• Active U.S. Secret Security Clearance is required (U.S. citizenship required). A clearance active in the past 24 months is considered active.
