About the role

The Application Sales Engineer provides pre- and post-sale technical support by delivering product proposals, evaluating customer requirements, and identifying and resolving application issues. This role includes a customer-facing outside sales component, working closely with field sales, operations, and vendor partners to strengthen customer relationships and support territory growth.

Responsibilities

  • Enhance team accomplishments and competence by planning delivery of solutions; answering technical questions for clients; mentoring team members.
  • Contribute to sales team effort by delivering technical proposals, presentations, and demonstrations.
  • Provide technical support to clients by maintaining advanced product knowledge; conducting product training; assisting in process control solutions.
  • Identify sales requirements by establishing personal rapport with key stakeholders to understand service requirements.
  • Maintain quality service by following organizational standards.
  • Prepare reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information.
  • Maintain technical knowledge by attending educational workshops and reviewing publications.
  • Partner with outside sales representatives to identify customer needs, develop account opportunities, support territory growth, and provide timely technical input that advances the sales process.
  • Participate in customer visits, site walkdowns, lunch-and-learns, and technical sales meetings to support outside sales initiatives.
  • Assist with identifying and qualifying opportunities for valves, automation, instrumentation, and related flow control products.
  • Provide technical recommendations, product selections, and commercial support to help outside sales respond quickly and accurately to customer needs.
  • Support territory and account development by sharing product knowledge, competitive insight, application feedback, and customer-specific requirements with the team.
  • Travel to customer facilities, jobsites, vendor locations, or company branches as needed to support sales opportunities and project execution.

  • Ability to work in a team environment (Field Sales, Engineering, Customer Service, Accounting).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and other company- or discipline-specific software applications.
  • Customer-facing mindset with the ability to build relationships, support account development, and communicate technical value in a sales environment.
  • Willingness to travel to customer sites, vendor facilities, branches, and field locations as business needs require.
  • BS in Engineering with an emphasis in electrical/instrumentation.

Physical Demands

  • Frequently required to stand and walk.
  • Continually required to sit, utilize hand and finger dexterity, talk, or hear.
  • Continually utilize visual acuity to read technical information and/or use a keyboard.
  • Occasionally balance, bend, stoop, kneel, or crawl.
  • Occasionally required to lift, push, or carry items up to 25 pounds.
  • Occasionally work near moving mechanical parts.
  • Occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions.
  • Occasionally exposed to loud noise (e.g., shop tool noises, electric motors, moving mechanical equipment).

Work Environment

This role operates in a professional office environment with flexibility for hybrid work. Standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and printers are used. Occasional visits to warehouses or operational sites may be required.
