Application Engineer – Machining Processes

About the role

We are looking for strong candidates who are problem solvers with a great attitude. You will work with large manufacturers to improve output and performance by identifying and resolving issues related to cutting tools and metalworking processes. The ideal candidate possesses a degree or strong understanding in Manufacturing, Industrial, or Mechanical fields, with hands-on experience in tool life management, machine uptime, work-holding, manufacturer communications, and lean applications.

Responsibilities

• Identify and recommend tools best matched to the application and machining parameters
• Troubleshoot performance and tool life problems and make recommendations regarding corrective actions
• Analyze customer’s performance based on tool use and suggest new tool designs to determine possible improvements
• Manage manufacturer communications and vendor tasking, including status updates
• Track and report top efficient/inefficient tools by department
• Drive tool life, quality, and productivity improvements
• Work with manufacturers on tooling improvements and problem resolution
• Support Tooling, Process, and Manufacturing Engineers
• Attend plant production tooling meetings

Requirements

• Degree or strong understanding in Manufacturing, Industrial, or Mechanical fields
• Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience in cutting tools and metalworking, process design, implementation, and management in a manufacturing environment
• Expertise in all types of milling cutting tools, including indexable tools and solid carbide tools
• Well-rounded understanding of materials, surface finishes, and surface treatments
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and reading blueprints
• 2 years of experience with Microsoft Excel (Required)
• 2 years of experience with Tooling (Required)
• 2 years of experience with CNC (Required)
