Machining Process Engineer

About the role

Oversees all document control and process functions within the Machining Operations.

Responsibilities

  • Assigns work to Machinists and assists with job-related questions.
  • Orders parts, materials, and tools required by personnel.
  • Quotes fixture work for new castings and casting changes; verifies with Machinists to resolve fixture issues and optimize operations.
  • Oversees applicable documents in machining.
  • Distributes work, job, company, and shop orders.
  • Maintains and approves blueprints and drawing files.
  • Recommends purchases of equipment and tooling.
  • Performs CNC Programming.
  • Assists and/or develops PFMEAs, Control Plans, and Work Instructions.
  • Follows applicable job work instructions.

Supervisory Responsibilities

May include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints; and resolving problems in accordance with company policies and applicable laws.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Integrated Manufacturing, Machining, Engineering, or related field highly preferred. Alternatively, an Associate’s degree or equivalent from an accredited college, or at least five years of current, related on-the-job experience and/or training.
  • Current, work-related experience in Master Cam 5-axis milling and turning, Mazatrol programming, Mazak Matrix controls, Mazak Integrex style machines, EIA/ISO programming, Fanuc, and 5-Axis Machining highly desirable.
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and handle abstract and concrete variables.

Skills

  • Basic computer skills and Computer Aided Drafting (CAD).
  • Knowledge of machine functions and capabilities.
  • Technical drawing, geometry, and trigonometry.
  • Basic supervisor training.

Physical Demands

  • Regularly lifts and/or moves up to 75 pounds.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear.
  • Frequently required to climb or balance.
  • Occasionally required to sit.

Work Environment

  • Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.
  • Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and highly flammable materials.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
