About the role

Omron Inspection Systems Division is seeking an energetic application engineer to join a dynamic team and work alongside advanced technology, providing dedicated support for Omron’s automated inspection solutions (SPI, AOI & AXI). This position is located at our Hoffman Estates location and is non-remote.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain an extensive knowledge base of the Omron inspection solution portfolio, quality standards, and industry insights as the in-house expert
  • Maintain expert-level knowledge of equipment operation and programming
  • Assist customers with equipment decisions, questions, and technical discussions
  • Support the sales team with demonstrations, evaluations, and technical sales activities
  • Assist the sales team with strategic sales, promotional activities, and industry/trade-show events
  • Perform equipment installation, service, support, and calibration activities
  • Provide remote, phone, and on-site customer support
  • Train customers and team members on technology-related topics
  • Assist with the design and implementation of training materials
  • Cross-train on each Omron inspection solution product category (SPI, AOI & AXI)
  • Perform other activities assigned by management
  • Represent Omron’s Guiding Principles through professional, ethical, and socially responsible interactions with employees, customers, distributors, and colleagues
  • Conform with U.S. export control regulations; applicant must be eligible for any required authorization from the U.S. Government

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline from an accredited four-year institution (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • 4+ years of SMT-manufacturing related experience, preferably in an inspection-focused role, with capital equipment support and strong troubleshooting skills

Skills

  • Ability to read basic electrical schematics
  • Effective project planning and time management skills
  • Experience with Windows PC/Server, networking, domain, and security support
  • PC and server hardware build and support experience
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, with a desire to work in a customer-facing role
  • Ability to learn new concepts quickly and work independently or as part of a team
  • Energetic, self-starting, and motivated personality with a personable and professional attitude
  • Bilingual ability in Spanish or Japanese (a strong plus)
  • Computer coding skills (a strong plus)
  • AutoCAD or similar skills (a strong plus)

Qualifications

  • Physical Requirements: Ability to talk, hear at normal speaking levels, sit, and use hands/fingers for typing and repetitive motions. Activities include extended periods of sitting, standing, and walking. Travel to customer sites may require walking up to a mile at a time.
  • Environmental Factors: Exposure to manufacturing environments, including factories, mills, offices, mines, and treatment plants. Environments vary depending on customer visits.
  • Other Requirements: A deemed Export License may be required.
  • Travel Requirements: Willingness to work irregular schedules/hours and travel up to 50–75%.
