About the Role
This position provides engineering, sales, and technical support to our sales organization, distributors, channel partners, and end users. Responsibilities include selection and quoting of equipment from our APV and Waukesha Cherry-Burrell product lines, providing technical information about equipment and applications, troubleshooting field problems, and delivering technical sales presentations and demonstrations.
Responsibilities
- Increase sales to existing accounts and expand business via cross-selling.
- Expand relationships and networks within existing accounts; share innovative ideas for customers.
- Hold channel partners and internal SPX FLOW teammates accountable to deliver on commitments and grow partnerships.
- Review customer specifications to prepare sales quotations and proposals, including price, delivery, and related materials.
- Communicate regularly with sales channels via email or telephone; use application data and PC-based sizing/pricing software for equipment selection and bid proposals.
- Assist with training sales representatives and customers through PowerPoint presentations and hands-on classes.
- Attend and participate in meetings with clients, representatives, and distributors to discuss product offerings and ensure customer expectations are met.
- Occasionally travel on sales calls with distributors or Sales Managers.
- Work with sales representatives and customers to establish needs, specifications, and potential product modifications.
- Inform customers of technological improvements and advantages of using the company’s products.
- Propose equipment or material changes to reduce costs or improve operations.
- Advocate for customer needs and prioritize customer satisfaction as a primary objective.
- Maintain control over sales and delivery processes identified as top priorities by customers.
- Determine, build, and reinforce professional credibility with buyers and influencers.
- Provide technical services and support related to the use, operation, and maintenance of equipment, including occasional travel to customer sites.
- Resolve customer complaints and warranty issues; handle quality problems fairly and professionally.
- Aid in the design and development of equipment and systems to fulfill customer needs.
- Coordinate testing of product samples from end-users to determine physical properties and compatibility.
- Work with cross-functional teams to research and report on company products versus competing equipment to drive sales and new product development.
- Collaborate with Application Engineers, Sales Managers, and Manufacturer’s Representatives to provide technical and commercial assistance.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Chemical, Mechanical, or related Engineering field with 2+ years of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for diverse audiences.
- Good organizational and interpersonal skills; proactive, self-starter mindset.
- Strong commercial/business acumen, teamwork skills, and ability to prioritize.
- Mechanical aptitude with knowledge of installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of mechanical equipment.
- Ability to read engineering drawings, 3D models, process flow diagrams, and P&IDs.
- Problem-solving and analytical skills; ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts and fluid dynamics for equipment sizing.
- Solid mathematical skills, including calculations for discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, etc.
- Ability to apply basic algebra and geometry concepts.
- Proficiency in customer service, including handling complaints and resolving problems.
- Ability to articulate and present ideas, concepts, and product demonstrations to large groups.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
- Willingness to occasionally travel to customer sites or other SPX Flow locations throughout the Americas.
- Desire to grow into a future commercial role in technical sales, channel management, or related fields.
Physical Demands
- Frequently required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear.
- Occasionally required to stand, walk, and lift/move up to 25 pounds.
- Specific vision abilities include close vision and ability to adjust focus.
Working Conditions
Normal office, client site workshop, or warehousing facility conditions. Noise levels are typically moderate but can vary at client sites; appropriate safety equipment should be worn as needed.
