About the role
Reporting to the General Manager ESAB Filler Metals, the Application Engineer serves as the primary technical resource for the field sales force, actively driving and managing the technology evaluation stage of the sales process. Working in conjunction with the sales team as the key technical advisor and product advocate, you will identify and provide reliable solutions for all technical issues to assure complete customer satisfaction through all stages of the sales process. The role requires establishing and maintaining strong relationships throughout the sales cycle.
Responsibilities
- Supports ESAB factories, including Hanover, with the development and introduction of new products and agency audits.
- Actively pursues ideas for developing market needs, strategies, and value-added activities.
- Supports the Sales Team in selling, demonstrating, and validating ESAB Solutions.
- Resolves customer issues in a manner consistent with the company mission, values, and financial objectives.
- Supports training for ESAB end users, distribution network, and internal sales teams, articulating technology and product positioning to both business and technical users.
- Supports ESAB technical support teams in filler metals applications, classifications, and troubleshooting.
- Supports ESAB military approvals across various filler metal product lines.
- Leads technical discussions with NAVSEA and other military contractors to identify opportunities, develop, and qualify ESAB products to meet military needs.
- Leads technical discussions with customers in the nuclear industry to identify opportunities and provide solutions, including leading internal projects to develop and execute required tests.
- Provides technical expertise to demonstrate value and win large opportunities with stainless and nickel alloys.
- Supports R&D and quality teams on new product introductions and product development.
- Works with the ESAB quality team and filler metal tested orders, providing technical expertise.
- Maintains accurate records of target accounts, opportunities, quotes, projects, contacts, and correspondence in company-approved databases, providing status updates on ongoing and future projects.
- Provides design and specification development support to consultants, integrators, and distributors.
- Responds to functional and technical elements of RFIs/RFPs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Welding or Metallurgical Engineering, or equivalent education/experience.
- Proven technical abilities and experience with welding processes.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Strong analytical skills.
- Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Visio, and AutoCAD.
- Ability to read architectural, mechanical, and electrical blueprints, with a solid understanding of basic electrical and mechanical control systems.
- Technical competence in SAW, FCAW, and SMAW welding for general fabrication.
- Experience qualifying welding procedures to AWS (D1.1 or D1.5) and/or ASME codes, including writing PQRs and WPSs.
Working Conditions
- Remains in a stationary position 50% of the time and involves physical demands such as ascending/descending stairs, walking, stooping, and standing.
- Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when working or visiting manufacturing and plant locations.
- Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, including printers, tablets, and cell phones.
- Moves, transports, puts, or removes equipment weighing up to 50 lbs.; pushes or pulls products weighing up to 50 lbs. using provided safety tools.
- May be exposed to varying weather during travel.
- Domestic travel required approximately 50%.
